A community platform for printmaking, education, and collective exchange

The San Diego Printmaking Society (SDPS) is a community-driven platform dedicated to advancing printmaking through education, collaboration, and collective exchange. Rooted in accessibility and community engagement, SDPS supports artists across disciplines while centering printmaking as both a technical practice and a social tool.

Founded through grassroots teaching, workshops, and exhibitions, SDPS works closely with local and cross-border communities throughout San Diego, Barrio Logan, and Tijuana. The organization partners with nonprofits, museums, cultural spaces, and community organizations to bring printmaking to diverse populations, including unhoused communities, disabled adults, youth, and emerging artists.

SDPS embraces printmaking in its expanded forms—relief, intaglio, screenprinting, monotype, and experimental processes—while encouraging interdisciplinary approaches that intersect with installation, sculpture, and collaborative practice. Through exhibitions, print exchanges, workshops, and public programs, SDPS fosters an inclusive environment where process, materiality, and shared knowledge are central.

At its core, San Diego Printmaking Society exists to make printmaking accessible, relevant, and alive—honoring its history while pushing its possibilities forward through community, education, and exchange.

About Us

The San Diego Printmaking Society is a community-driven collective dedicated to activating printmaking across San Diego and beyond. What began as a personal necessity quickly evolved into a growing network of artists, educators, and collaborators committed to making printmaking accessible, visible, and relevant. Through exhibitions, workshops, and public programming, SDPS creates opportunities for artists at all stages to share their work and engage with the public.

Operating without a permanent space, SDPS has embraced a mobile, grassroots model. This approach brings printmaking into galleries, community spaces, and cross border contexts. It has allowed the organization to build strong relationships throughout San Diego and Tijuana, fostering a practice rooted in exchange, collaboration, and cultural dialogue.

As momentum continues to build, SDPS is actively working toward establishing a permanent printmaking studio to serve as a hub for education, production, and community engagement. The organization remains committed to supporting artists, creating opportunities, and sustaining a vibrant printmaking culture in the region.

Print Day in May is an international celebration of printmaking where artists, studios, and organizations open their doors to share the process and possibilities of print with the public. It is a day rooted in accessibility, education, and community engagement.

For 2026, San Diego Printmaking Society presents a large scale community driven activation bringing together printmakers, collectives, and artists from across San Diego, Tijuana, and beyond. The event features live demonstrations, workshops, exhibitions, music, and interactive experiences designed to welcome both experienced artists and newcomers.

As SDPS continues to operate as a mobile collective, this event serves as both a celebration and a statement. It demonstrates the strength of the printmaking community while building momentum toward establishing a permanent space. Print Day in May reflects the organization commitment to visibility, collaboration, and sustaining printmaking as a living and evolving practice.
