ABOUT

The San Diego Printmaking Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and advancing printmaking throughout San Diego and beyond. Founded in 2025, the organization was created to connect artists, provide access to printmaking resources, and build opportunities for education, exhibition, and creative exchange.

Based on the ancestral and unceded homelands of the Kumeyaay Nation, SDPS serves as a hub for printmakers, students, educators, and community members interested in traditional and contemporary approaches to printmaking. Through classes, workshops, exhibitions, artist residencies, open studios, lectures, demonstrations, and public programming, we create opportunities for artists at all stages of their creative journey to learn, create, and share their work.

Printmaking has long been a medium rooted in communication, collaboration, and the sharing of ideas. The San Diego Printmaking Society embraces this tradition while supporting a broad range of contemporary practices, including relief printing, screen printing, lithography, monotype, monoprint, etching, letterpress, book arts, and interdisciplinary approaches to print.

While rooted in San Diego, our work extends across borders and beyond. We actively foster relationships throughout California, the United States, and the California-Baja California region through exhibitions, artist exchanges, residencies, and collaborative projects. Since our founding, we have connected artists from France, Latvia, Serbia, Australia, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and across the United States through exhibitions, print exchanges, and community-driven programming.

The organization was established in response to a growing need for accessible printmaking opportunities and spaces where artists could gather, learn from one another, and develop their practices outside of traditional academic settings. Our permanent studio provides a home for artistic production, experimentation, education, and community engagement while helping preserve printmaking traditions for future generations.

At its core, the San Diego Printmaking Society believes that printmaking thrives when knowledge is shared, opportunities are created, and artists support one another. Through local, national, binational, and international partnerships, we are working to strengthen the printmaking community while creating a lasting home for the medium in San Diego.

Keeping printmaking alive, accessible, and rooted in collaboration.
